What is the difference between Real Browser Single Page/Multi-Step, Network Health Checks, and API Checks/Multi-Step monitors? |
There are 5 types of synthetic monitors that can be configured with Blue Triangle that contribute to the 3 different Synthetic Monitoring subsections.
The Real Browser Monitoring subsection contains data from Single Page Real Browser Monitors and Multi-Step Real Browser Monitors. Real Browser Monitoring pertains to measuring full webpage loads in a browser and returning information about all stages of a page load, all content in a page load, and other information such as screen shots and film strips. The single-page version of the monitor measures just one page load at a time, whereas the multi-step monitor is controlled with a script that tells the monitor what actions to take, with the resulting data collected. These actions can be things like visiting and loading multiple pages, or just taking an action on a single page. The point is that the multi-step monitor will segment the data between different actions so that there is more visibility into what is happening during a specific action by the monitor.
The API Checks subsection contains data from Multi-Step API Monitors and API Checks Monitors. These API monitors will contribute data that shows the availability of various APIs. Not all of these APIs will necessarily be in the browser. However, all of these availability metrics are meant to show at a glance whether the API in question is up and running or unavailable at the present time or in the past so that businesses can respond quickly operationally.
The Network Health Checks subsection contains data collected by the Network Heath Checks Monitors. These monitors collect information about the way data is transmitted across the web, with several unique metrics specific to the kinds of data that are transmitted in the process of measuring. Network Health Checks can show you if there is an issue with the network transmitting your site data to customers, as well as where the problem is occurring along the route and the type of instability that is occurring.
